2016 has been a record setting year for economic development in Dublin-Laurens County. Today, SunTek Pet LLC is announcing an expansion to their existing pet food manufacturing operations in the community. The company originated in 2014 from a newly formed joint venture between Hi-Tek Rations based in Dublin, Georgia and Sunshine Mills, Inc. based in Red Bay, Alabama.  Sun-Tek Pet produces and distributes high quality dog and cat food for its owners with volume this year set to exceed 90 million pounds.

The company’s expansion includes the purchase of two existing industrial facilities from the Dublin-Laurens County Development Authority, a 40,000 sq. ft. expansion to one of those facilities, a $2.2 million capital investment, and an estimated 30 new jobs. Today’s expansion and new job creation announcement will bring the company’s total employment to approximately 75 people in Dublin-Laurens County.

“We are grateful for SunTek Pet’s continued investment in our community, and we look forward to their growth and prosperity in Dublin-Laurens County”, said Dublin-Laurens County Development Authority Chairman Roger Folsom.

“We appreciate the support of Dublin-Laurens County Development Authority and the opportunities they presented for helping our business grow”, said Alan Bostick, President of Sun-Tek Pet and the CEO of Sunshine Mills, Inc.

Sun-Tek Pet LLC is a part of the ever-growing pet industry.  According to the American Pet Products Association, the size of the pet industry was estimated to exceed $60 billion in 2015 with $23 billion going for food.  There are an estimated 42 million cats and 54 million dogs in the United States.
